VLV provides evidence to Lords Committee

VLV’s Chairman, Colin Browne, provided oral evidence on April 30th 2019 to the Lords Communications Committee inquiry into the impact of video on demand.

You can watch a clip of this evidence in which Colin outlines the benefits of public service broadcasting (PSB) and the difference between PSB and subscription video on demand services.

In its written evidence to the committee VLV has been keen to stress the distinction between the needs of citizens and consumers. You can read the full submission here.

VLV is concerned that the existing public service broadcasting system in the UK is being undermined by the growth of subscription VOD services, such as Netflix and Amazon Prime. These services are focused on drama and entertainment and are increasingly popular, especially among younger audiences.

This is leading to a decline in the reach of the public service broadcasters.
