VLV Awards 2020

Now in their 29th year, the VLV Awards for Excellence in Broadcasting are nominated and voted for by VLV members and acknowledge excellence in UK public service broadcasting.

In 2020 public service broadcasting rose to the challenge of helping us get through an incredibly difficult year. VLV would like to congratulate and thank all those involved in keeping us informed, educated and entertained under such difficult circumstances.

The winners include BBC News’ Health Editor, Hugh Pym, and Radio 4 presenter and economist, Tim Harford, both of whom helped audiences understand Coronavirus better in 2020. The Naomi Sargant award, which has an educational focus, goes to Grayson Perry for, among other things, his work which has inspired and encouraged thousands of people to take up different forms of art. The children’s award goes to a series which helped ‘spread as much joy and positivity as possible’ during lockdown: Mimi on a Mission – Lockdown Party. This year the VLV has also made a special award for the best lockdown broadcasting initiative. The award goes to The BBC’s Lockdown Learning Project which provided educational material and programmes during 2020.

We had hoped to be able to present the awards in person but, as in 2020, we were unable to do so because of the Pandemic, but we hope next year we will be able to reinstate VLV’s normal awards ceremony.
