Education, Children, Digital & the Communications Bill on VLV’s Autumn Agenda 

Four events will be staged this autumn by Voice of the Listener & Viewer (VLV) to raise and inform public debate about important topical issues in broadcasting.  They include: 

Wednesday,  26 September, London.  Launch of the VLV Forum on Educational Broadcasting, 6.00pm - 8.30pm. with light refreshments, £5. 

The VLV Education Forum will bring together broadcasters, programme makers, publishers, teachers, lecturers, academics and students to monitor the current state and future possibilities  for educational broadcasting and related services. 

The BBC and Channel 4 are renowned for the quality of their educational and their social action programmes and both have exciting and ambitious plans for using new media, including the Internet and interactive television to develop new services for schools, further education and life long learners.   At a time of such fast-moving change in the production, provision and delivery of educational services, whether curriculum based or informal, for children and adults, VLV is eager to encourage the development and take-up of new services because of the benefits they can bring.

Saturday, 13 October, Napier University Edinburgh 10.00 - 4.30pm.  ‘Broadcasting and Scottish Devolution’. Tickets: £15, Students £5. 

VLV will join with the Royal Television Society, Radio Academy and International Institute of Communications for its 11th annual conference in Scotland.  Those who have been invited to speak include: John McCormick, Controller, BBC Scotland; Richard Findlay, Chairman, Scottish Radio Holdings; Professor Jean Seaton, BBC Historian; David Goldberg, Department of Law, Glasgow University; Robert Beveridge, Napier University; Paul Brown, Chief Executive, Commercial Radio Companies Association; Jocelyn Hay, Chairman, Voice of the Listener & Viewer.

Thursday, 1st November, ‘Children and Television: Predators at the Gate’  International Conference Centre, Euston St, London NW1. 930am - 4.30pm. Tickets: £80, with lunch.  Students £16.

The VLV Forum for Children's broadcasting will examine the provision of television and radio programmes for children in the UK and the impact that new media, including satellite, the internet and video games are having on audiences and producers.    Among those who have been invited to speak are: Nigel Pickard, BBC Controller of Children's Television and Janie Grace, ITV Controller of Children's Television. 

Wednesday, 28th November.  ‘Broadcasting & the New Communications Bill’. VLV’s 18th Autumn Conference. Hamilton House, London WC1.  10.30am -3.30pm. Tickets with lunch £80, students £16.

One session will be devoted to a discussion and question session on digital television and radio.

A second session is being reserved for topical issues and an open forum. Wednesday, 28th November. VLV’s 18th AGM. Hamilton House. 4pm.
