Digital Roll-out, OFCOM, & the Communications Bill on VLV Spring Agenda. 

Voice of the Listener & Viewer (VLV) will hold conferences in Swansea on 26 February and in London on 30 April to encourage debate on the structure and working of OFCOM, the progress of the Communications Bill, the roll-out and access of digital terrestrial television, Freeview, and other current broadcasting issues. 

Wednesday, 26 February, VLV’s 6th annual conference in Wales:

Broadcasting, Wales and the new Regulatory Framework
to be held at the Dylan Thomas Centre, Swansea, 10.00am -16.30pm, Coffee 09.30am.

Confirmed speakers include: 
Huw Jones, Chief Executive, S4C; 
Ellis Owen, Managing Director and Controller of Programmes, HTV,Wales, 
Dr Manon Williams, Head of Public Affairs, BBC Wales,
Chris Bryant MP for the Rhondda, 
Dafydd Hughes, Chief Executive, TAC, the Welsh Independent Producers Association,
Alun Davies, Director of Corporate Affairs, S4C
Greg Bensberg, Chair, Spectrum Planning Group, Digital Television Action Plan Project
Tim Jenks, Director, Confederation of Aerial Installers.

Among the subjects the conference will consider are: the relationships  between S4C, HTV, the BBC and OFCOM, the new super regulator that will replace five existing statutory bodies and bring together the regulation of radio, television, spectrum management and telecommunications; the launch of Freeview, digital access and  reception problems in Wales; and opportunities for independent producers .

Key note speaker: Lord Currie of Marylebone,  Chair of OFCOM - 1.00am

Andrew Marr will present to the winners of VLV’s 2002 Awards for Excellence in Broadcasting with engraved crystal rose bowls kindly donated by Dartington Crystal at 13.45 -14.30 pm 
Tickets: £80, academics £40.  Including lunch.  Concessions on request.  Awards ceremony only: £5.
