The European Alliance of Listeners' and Viewers' Associations

Est 1996

At this conference "Global Enquiring for VLV Listeners and Viewers" the President of the Broadcasting Union Chief of the European Commissioner spoke for the first time at the event organised by a consumer group.  As a direct result of the event the European Commissioner agreed to add consumer groups to its official consultation list.  Until this date no consumer bodies had been involved.

VLV has campaigned actively at European level since 1993 on the future of Public Service Broadcasting and held its first international conference in London.  As a direct result of its first international conference in 1993, VLV was instrumental in the formation of the EURALVA which held its first annual meeting in 1996.

EURALVA now has member organisation in seven european countries and associates in Australia, Canada, New Zealand.  For list see below.

VLV was also instrumental in the Councillor of Europe decision to involve citizen and consumer groups in its hearing and consultations.  VLV chairman and committee members have given evidence to the Councillor of Europe hearings for the media several times since 1993.

EURALVA represents the interest of listeners and viewers of broadcasting services and works to maintain the principle of public service in broadcasting.
