VLV's Forum for Educational Broadcasting was set up in September 2001. The Forum's overall aim is to to promote a wider understanding of the relationship between broadcasting and education and of the opportunities provided by broadcasting for formal and informal education for all ages.
Past events include a seminar on Media Literacy in 2003 with speakers including Stephen Heppell, of Ultralab, Professor Naomi Sargant of the National Institute of Adult and Continuing Education, Robin Blake of the Independent Television Commission and Nancy Thumin of the London School of Economics. A seminar on introducing the Digital Curriculum to Primary Schools was held in 2002 as well as a seminar on Television, Adult Learning and an Educated Democracy with speakers including Michael Stevenson, Director of BBC Factual & Learning and Frank Flynn, Controller, BBC Schools.
Membership is open to all with an interest in education and broadcasting. Individual VLV members may opt for membership of the Forum without paying an additional subscription.
Broadcasters, regulators, programme makers and others for whom membership of VLV is not appropriate, and people who work in education and broadcasting but who may not wish to become VLV members, can pay an annual subscription of £20.00 (£24 overseas).
This subscription covers inclusion on the Education Forum mailing lists and brings information about forum events and activities plus the VLV quarterly news Bulletin with news of VLV events; it does not include VLV membership rights or responsibilities.
