Details of the voting process for VLV's 2008 Awards coming soon!  The Awards are now in their 17th year, and many distinguished broadcasters have been honoured by VLV members.

VLV 2007 Awards awards5for Excellence in Broadcasting

Voice of the Listener and Viewer 2007 Awards were presented at the VLV Spring Conference, 23 April 2008 by Howard Goodall who was the recipient of VLV's Special Award for Educational Broadcasting introduced last year in memory of Naomi Sargant.

Howard was appointed Ambassador for Singing in 2007 to lead a £40 million programme to improve singing in primary schools. He is a prolific composer, conductor and broadcaster and as well as classical music has composed through the theme tunes for television shows such as Blackadder, Mr Bean, The Catherine Tate Show and the Vicar of Dibley. He has also produced several shows he for Channel 4, most recently, How Music Works.

 

Best Radio Programme or Programme Series

Nominees were BBC Radio 3 Composer of the Week;I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue; In Our Time; Start The Week; The Food Programme; Today.  All of the rest of the nominees were from BBC Radio 4. The winner was the Today programme.

Best Radio New Programme or Programme Series

Nominees were Dombey and Sons; Doctor Zhivago; Nick Clarke's Diary; Ten Popes Who Shook the World; The Making of Music  - all from BBC Radio 4, and Free Thinking from BBC Radio 3. The winner was The Making of Music.

Best Individual Radio Contributor

Nominees were Melvyn Bragg, Donald Macleod, Jenni Murray, James Naughtie, Edward Stoughton, Peter White.  The winner was Melvyn Bragg.

  

Best TV Programme or Programme Series

Nominees were Antiques Road Show - BBC 1; Bremner, Bird & Fortune - Channel 4; Dispatches - Channel 4; History of Modern Britain - BBC1; Unreported World - Channel 4; Who Do You Think You Are - BBC1?   The winner was Dispatches.

 

Best New TV Programme or Programme Series

Nominees were Cranford - BBC1; Earth - Power of the Planet - BBC2; Lilies - BBC1; Monarchy BBC1; Story of India - BBC2; This is Civilisation - Channel 4.  The winner was Cranford.

Best Children's TV Programme

Nominees were Dr Who - BBC 1; Shaun the Sheep - cbeebies; The Night Garden - cbeebies. The winner was Shaun the Sheep.

Best Individual TV Contributor

Nominees were: Rory Bremmer; Evan Davies; Andrew Marr; Monty Don; Alan Titchmarsh; Michael Wood.  The winner was Andrew Marr.

 

VLV Special Awards

Leslie Burrage, Chief Executive of Roberts Radio, presented a new Special VLV Radio Award, sponsored by Roberts, to Donald Macleod, presenter of Radio 3's Composer of the Week. Michael Wood, the author, broadcaster and historian received VLV's Special Award for Educational Broadcasting which was presented in memory of the distinguished educator and VLV Board member Naomi Sargeant.  Her husband, Lord McIntosh of Harringey attended the ceremony.

The Awards were organised by John Clark - one of the trustees of the Voice of the Listener Trust. Past Award Winners

Voice of the Listener and Viewer 2006 Awards for Excellence in Broadcasting were presented by Sue MacGregor at VLV's Spring Conference in April 2007. 

Coast - BBC 2 won the The Best TV Programme or Programme Series. Neil Oliver one of the presenters and Steve Evanson - Series Producer accepted the Award.

Planet Earth - BBC 1 won the Best New Programme or Programme Series.  Alistair Fothergill - Series Producer accepted the Award. awards4

Stephen Fry was the Best Individual TV Contributor. Stephen accepted his Award in person, and later posed with the winner of the Best New Radio Programme or Programme Series John Humphrys with the Dartington Crystal awards. John and producer David Coomes won this category for the series Humphrys in Search of God - Radio 4

File on Four - BBC Radio 4 won the category of Best Radio Programme of Programme Series which was accepted by presenter Jenny Cuff and David Ross - Editor  

Eddie Mair  was the winner of the Best Individual Radio Contributor and collected his award hotfoot from the studio.   

The 2006 Awards were organised by Terry Glover - VLV Board member.
