VLV would like to thank everyone who entered our student essay competition. 

The winners were announced at VLV's Autumn Conference on 30th November 2006.  Sarah Smith, More 4 News, presented the prizes.

      Winner: James Bennett (PhD Warwick) received a cheque for £1,000 

      The runners up were awarded a two week placement:

Public Service Broadcasting in the UK is changing fast. Digital technology, a new Royal Charter for the BBC and new regulatory and commercial pressures will all shape the future of Public Service Broadcasting.

But what do you think is the likely future of Public Service Broadcasting in the Digital Age?

Entries are invited for the 2005 VLV Student Essay Competition, held in association with Channel 4 Television, from students studying for a UK registered undergraduate or postgraduate degree or qualification, or an NCTJ recognised journalism qualification.

Entries can be submitted as either a written essay of a maximum of 2,000 words or as a short video or radio feature no more than ten minutes in length. The closing date for entries is Tuesday, 31st May, 2005.

The winning entry will receive a cash prize of £1,000, and the top three entries will receive two weeks work experience with a television production company.

Judges include Professor Steven Barnett, University of Westminster; Roger Graef, Managing Director, Films of Record; Andrea Millwood-Hargrave, Principal, Millwood-Hargrave Ltd; Professor Vincent Porter, VLV ; and Jon Snow, Channel 4 News.
